Where is Neuerburg situated?
The town of Neuerburg is located in Germany, in the Southern Eifel in the Eifel district Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate. It is the capital of the Neuerburger Land and is close to the Luxembourgian border.
The city is located in the Enz valley, surrounded by green nature. The river Enz runs through the town. Neuerburg has just over 1,500 inhabitants.
The history of Neuerburg
The town is officially recognised as a health resort. In 1332, Neuerburg received city rights from the lord of Brandenburg of Luxembourg and Neuerburg. The town has fortunately not lost its medieval influences over the years, despite a major fire in 1818 that affected a large part of the town. Above the town stands Neuerburg Castle, from which the town got its name.
The sights of Neuerburg
Travel back to the Middle Ages on a city tour. The city has not lost its authentic character. Curved streets, small half-timbered houses and the 500-year-old late-Gothic St. Nicolas Church on a rock above the city. Above it is the unique Vogtgebäude, which today is the vicarage. Remnants of the town wall and the castle are also still visible.
The foundations of Neuerburg Castle were laid in the twelfth century. However, a large part was lost in 1692, in the time of the French king Louis XIV. In 1926, the castle ruins were converted into a youth hostel by the youth association. Make sure you take a look in the courtyard from the castle.
